Frozen Sunshine is a small business that is being built from the ground up, fuelled by a passion for quality ingredients, amazing flavour and a personal history of food intolerances. The idea to start our own iceblock business came to us after a Sunday at the beach with our three kids in late 2013, and in December that year we registered Frozen Sunshine becoming the first artisanal ice pop business based in Queensland.
Taking the idea to fruition took six months of hard work and determination – and all our savings! We invested everything we had and borrowed a bit more from family, importing a small iceblock machine from Brazil and a refrigerated iceblock cart and packaging from China. We found a kitchen to operate out of at night, got a food license and convinced a local market operator to give us a shot selling iceblocks in the middle of winter. And so it was that Frozen Sunshine came to life in June 2014 when we sold our first iceblock on a cold Wednesday from a stall at the back of Eumundi markets.
In the months that followed, we persisted through cold mornings and cool days attending 3-4 weekly markets, all the while making iceblocks by night in a kitchen space we rented by the hour and juggling full time work as a chef and a family of 3 small children. In September 2014 we started stocking our first wholesale customers and at the start of our first Summer, Jamie took a leap of faith and quit his day job.
Fast forward 4 years and while you can still find us at the occasional music festival or event around Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast, it is more likely that you will find our iceblocks us at your local café, green grocer or independent supermarket. We are still a small family business, now with a small team helping us to make, sell and distribute the same top quality, all natural iceblocks.
